With over two decades at the BBC, my career seamlessly blended broadcasting, archival expertise, and a lifelong passion for photography. During my final few years there, I lead development of the BBC Photo Archive—an underutilised treasure that was ripe for transformation.
Under my stewardship, the BBC Archive evolved from a forgotten trove into a vibrant, profitable publishing repository. The foundations and innovations I implemented continue to serve the BBC.
Now, I’m building The Allan Archive, rooted in the extraordinary 40-year body of work of one photographer, capturing iconic moments of stars in all their glory. But this is just the beginning. The Archive is expanding to include cultural collections and contributions from a wider range of photographers.
At its core, The Allan Archive is about delivering top-quality, limited-edition collectible content for collectors and fans alike. Every sale directly supports the Archive, with profits reinvested to secure its future and ensure these cultural treasures remain accessible for generations to come.
My vision is clear: to make the Archive both content-driven and user-focused. By democratising archive photography, I aim to make these treasures accessible to all while celebrating the stories they tell.
