My friendship with Mark Allan, a technical wizard behind the lens, laid the foundation for what The Allan Archive is today. When the conversation turned to his extensive photographic back catalog, and he presented me the opportunity to curate and develop it, I was deeply honored. Trusting me with his life’s work – a legacy for his family and future generations – is a responsibility I cherish, akin to my role with the BBC Photo Archive.

Resourcefulness and hustle became our tools as we built The Allan Archive from the ground up. This endeavor required a special mindset to unlock the stories hidden within this sprawling collection, a mindset both Mark and I fortunately share.
